We are in the midst of our final week of the local middle school cross country season. Monday the team ran a final easy 2 mile pre race run at 6 am. I wanted something a little longer so I ran from home and met the team in the middle of their run. I finished just shy of 7 miles. Tuesday, the team ran the Tri District League Championships. The afternoon meet started with a boys race and a girls race for school not in our league.
Our 8th grade boys easily won their race. A boy from Joe Walker surprised us and won the race but my boys finished with 21 points. Our 8th grade girls also easily won. Jeniah Brown from Amargosa Creek was the race winner followed by Natalie Gutierrez. The team finished with a perfect score. The 7th boys had a perfect 1,2,3,4,5 finish led by Jaden Olivares. The 7th girls also had a perfect score and nine out of 10 finish led by Halia Smithley.
Our 6th grade teams are always smaller as our school only has a small 6th grade population – 2 classes. Still the girls ran great led by a first place finish from LiNya Perry – the team won with 19 points. The 6th boys were a no show. Literally, only 3 finishers. Overall, we won 5 of 6 races and our 11th straight champoinships!
This morning and afternoon we had team practices. I ran both. On the morning almost 3 miler, I pushed the pace to Tempo pace for two laps around the schools. It was about 14 minutes of solid effort. This afternoon I ran easy.
