Much improved this evening

Sunday did not feel so good. So, Monday I rested….. well, from running anyway. I DID go see Clay and he put me through about an hour and a half of work. This time it is actually pretty fun working with Clay. The first time I saw Clay a couple years back he concentrated on stretching me. Getting stretched by a trainer is NOT a painless activity.

This time we are focusing on strength – inner core and the posterior chain. I am working with his rowing machine, playing catch with a bounce back thing and Clay, lifting kettlebells and doing squats.

Tonight was the Tuesday night High Desert Runners speed workout. I am not quite up to “speed” yet. We did 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 7. Some of the runners there were planning on doing the Turkey Trot Thursday so I had them stop at 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3.  Miguel and I were the only ones to do the full 7 minute interval on the end. My pace prior to the 7 was getting faster and faster as the evening progressed. Clay said to just go for 7:30.  As I started out the 7 minute interval I did the first lap in 1:12. Clay yelled at me for being under 7 minute pace. As the minutes went by however, I could feel the fatigue set in. I think the remaining 3 laps were at 7:30 pace. As I was on the last straightaway of the 4th lap I yelled out “time” for the completion of the 7 minutes. I went ahead and finished the lap at 7:22.

With warm up and cool down I completed 5 miles.

  1. Somehow I don’t think the first lap of the 7 min was in 1:12 that would put you at 4:48 mile pace. Yes it was fast but not that fast. Good workout, keep plugging away and you will be back in 3 months.
