Another big Tuesday……
1) I met Karl at 5:10 am at Joe Walker – yes, that’s right 5:10 in the morning just two days after the time change. The forecast? DARK – continued DARK pretty much throughout the entire workout….. actually, though, the weather was great! We were blessed with an almost wind free morning! We warmed up and did 6 x 1 mile. My times were 7:00, 6:59, 6:46, 6:43, 6:46 and 6:39. It is pretty cool when you can do your fastest mile as your last one. Of course, it always helps when Karl paces me rather than running off 30 seconds ahead of me!
2) The Hillview afternoon run. I wanted an easy 3.5 for myself while getting the team some intervals. So what we decided to do was a sort of fartlek version of our Jamba Qualifier run. It is a 3.5 mile loop. I brought along a die. Once we were warmed up I rolled the die and whatever number came up, we ran that number of light poles fast followed by the same number easy. At the end of each interval we regrouped and I rolled the die again! I think team enjoyed it. Oh, one note, I just jogged along easy the whole time.
3) The Tuesday evening HDR speed workout: It was a little windy, but much warmer than last week. With the nicer weather we had a nicer turnout. I have not counted yet, but it was in the 20s. A couple of the runners, Branden and Miguel are running Los Angeles this weekend, so I instructed them to take it easy – to run their marathon pace. At first I told Miguel to stay behind me, expecting that I would not be that fast! The workout was 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1. On the threes and twos I took note of my 1 lap splits: 1:37, 1:36, 1:33, 1:33, 1:32, 1:32. On the last set, it was really weird. Neil left after two sets and Miguel was hanging back. I was out in front!
The total for the day was around 19 miles!
The weight for the last couple of days had been under 166!
