This morning I served as official race results guy at a local race called “Run with the Law.” It was held at the AV Fair. They had almost 100 runners between the 5K and the 10K. Here is a nice write up that Alan Brown prepared for submission to the HDR newsletter….
On a blisteringly hot day, almost 100 runners and walkers wove their way through the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds during the second annual Run with the Law 5K and 10K runs. Sponsored by organizations associated with local law enforcement agencies, the event raised funds for several local charitable organizations, including the CHP’s Senior Volunteer Program and Grace Resource Center.
10K winner Evan Stevens, 25, led from the start and never looked back as he cruised to a 42.21 finish, about 3 ½ minutes ahead of HDR Lance Close, 47, who took second. First female Lauren Mutschler, 19, toured the four-lap course in 49.18 to finish third overall, just ahead of HDR Kathy Diorio, 56, who was second female and fourth overall in 52.17.
HDR Maninder Sohal, who ran cross-country and track at Lancaster High School and Antelope Valley College before moving on to San Francisco State University, found the flat and fast two-loop 5K course to his liking, as he finished well ahead of the rest of the field in 18.20, more than 4 ½ minutes ahead of second-place finisher Bradley Taggart, 20, in 22.52. HDR Keith Giles, 49, was right behind to finish third in 22.55.
First female finisher in the 5K was Tracy Jones, 43, who crossed the line in 24.00, good for seventh overall. HDR June Heaton, 51, was third female and 12th overall in 25.04.
Participants in the two races were escorted by two CHP officers riding pursuit motorcycles with lights flashing in Code 2 mode
Finish line timing services were provided by HDRs Dale and Cheryl Lister and Christian Andrews, with backup assistance from Chuck Fieland and Alan Brown.
The event also featured a bicycle safety course for young cyclists and displays of new cars and other goods from several sponsoring vendors.

A while back there was some discussion on facebook about an Antelope Valley Marathon to be held at Apollo Park. I think we discovered a better venue for such an event today. It would require lots of laps, but on a cool day you could run a fast one on the pancake flat asphalt there…..
