This morning we had our first Monday morning practice of the season. I estimate that only about half the team showed up. We did a run I call the Jamba Qualifier. It is a simple 3.5 mile loop. I was feeling pretty good and finished it in under 30 minutes. The interesting thing is to watch the rest of the team come in. I recorded names and approximate times discovering a few of the new runners may turn out to be pretty good. Of course, the run also illuminates those who have much work to do. At one point on the run we force the stragglers into a shortcut. As a result the approach the finish from the opposite direction. I take down their names. Hopefully they try harder to avoid the shortcut and complete the full run in the allotted time, next time.
