For the 3rd week in a row, I have challenged the Hillview kids with our Long Hill Repeat workout…. a.k.a. Our Secret Weapon workout. Last week, I ran it in recovery mode after the tough weekend. Today, though, I am saving “recovery mode” for a late week mini taper. So, after our warm up I hit the first hill hard. The first thing I noticed was that we had the additional challenge of a headwind. I also noticed that my quads were not quite 100% recovered from Saturday. Still, I pushed the tempo up the hill and barely completed the first half mile split within the 3:30 limit. 2nd rep, up N8 from 45th to 50th was still into the southwesterly headwind. Once again, though I was just approaching the light when the timer went off. On number 3 I noticed there were only a few kids still ahead of me. The big one, is number four. Only 3 or 4 kids have made it to the top of this one on time. I have been 50 or more meters short each time. Today, I was only 10m, one house from the top!
