I met Chuck and Lance at 5:45 on the aqueduct this morning for some speedwork. (As I write this I am wondering how many consecutive days they have been out there….) For me, this work out was to replace my typical Tuesday evening HDR workout. I cannot do the HDR workout tonight due to Hillview’s XC championship meet this afternoon.
Our workout was a simple 12 x 1/4 mile interval workout. We warmed up with a mile then alternated fast quarters with very easy quarters. I had what was probably my best quarter mile repeat workout ever. I took off on the first one and was surprised to finish in 1:25. That first one was the fastest, but they all remained solid: 1:28, 1:30, 1:30, 1:29, 1:29, 1:27, 1:29, 1:27, 1:26 and 1:28. I don’t recall ever being consistenly under 1:30 for quarters in a workout…. Yeah!!
Lance was quicker. He has another gear I don’t have. Each interval he would sprint out and get a few seconds ahead of me and then settle into pace. If I happened to close the gap he would hear me and respond with a surge to get back out ahead. Most laps he seemed to fade just a bit the last 20 meters and I would surge to get within a second or two. I look forward to seeing what he can do in some fall races!
Congratulations Hillview on your 9th consecutive overall cross country championship! I am looking forward to watching everyone run at Mt. Sac this Friday.
Great job this morning! Running all 12 quarters in 1:30 or less is impressive. Your total interval time for the 3 miles was 17:38.
Wow, 17:38? Maybe i am ready for another sub 20…..
