A decade of dominance

Hillview had its Cross Country League Championship Meet today. We had won the overall league title for 9 consecutive years and were seeking to defend it once again. The overall league title is based on adding points earned by winning or placing in the 7th and 8th grade level races.

As expected our 8th grade boys starting the afternoon with a resounding win. They beat Joe Walker with a perfect score of 15 to 54.  Leo Oliva, Cade Ruble, Bryce Webb, Cole Walls and Michael Vidal swept a perfect 1 – 5. Luis Avina and Jason Flores also placed in the top 15.

The 8th grade girls ran well and finished 2nd to a very strong Joe Walker team. Gabby Castro was Hillviews top girl finishing 4th. Lauren Heath, Calista Cano and Nazmarie Rivera Hart all placed in the top 15.

The 7th grade boys were not quite as dominating as the 8th graders. Adam Deshields, Derek Rodriguez, Ben Sumner, Chigozie Achara and Abraham Sosa-Torres finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th and 9th. They won with only 20 points.

The 7th grade girls clinched the overall championship when they also won their race 32 -43. Natalie Gutierrez led the team placing 2nd in the race. Kiley Gilmer, Josie Ferreria, Brooklyn Smith, Tanaya Cobian, Enid Arana, and Daneila Vargas all finished within the top 15.

The 6th grade boys also won their 6th grade championship. Brady Butler won the race. He was followed by Kanwar Deol, Ethan Ortega, Jacob Mellville and Jack Kubo all in the top 15.

Our 6th grade girls ran short handed and did not have enough runners to score. But Caylin Livinston, Brooke Faulk and Haylee McCarthy came in 4th, 5th and 13th!

I look forward to Mt Sac coming up on Friday! The boys teams and the 7th grade girls all have a shot at placing or winning their races there!
