Clay and Oscar met me at Hillview this morning to run my HV 2 mile Time Trial route. We ran it once easy as a warm up and then we ran it fast. Oscar pulled ahead of me on the opening, as we ran down Rancho Vista Blvd. Clay sped up and caught him. I maintained my pace (thought, honestly, I don’t think I could have gone much faster.)
Glancing at my watch, it looked like the first mile went by in about 6:40 – 6:45. As we ran up Bolz Ranch road I slowly gained on Oscar. When we got to the final quarter, uphill, I pushed it and pulled closer and closer. Of course, Oscar sped up and made things difficult. Clay pulled away and finished. Oscar and I raced in the last 50 and Oscar held me off, finishing just a few strides ahead of me. The time for the 2 miles was 13:25, so my second mile was about the same pace as the first.
Strava had me at 13:29 on the segment which sets a new PR. There is a separate segment set up for the Rancho Vista part. I was 7 seconds off on this part, so I just have made it up on the 2nd half of the run. Not too bad considering that I ran pretty hard on my 14 miler yesterday.
Good job! You’ve got a great shot at a medal in Carlsbad. Based on last year, you need to run 21 flat to place in the top 250 in the masters race.
