We rode the train once again today. We got up very early to be at the train station with all our bags at 5:45 for a 6:45 train. There were people everywhere. We checked in the luggage and eventually got aboard. The comort and the leg room was AWESOME. I wish trains were similarly laid out. Our friend Connie could not even reach the foot rest on the back of the seat ahead of her. The train ride was slow but the scenery was incredible.
We arrived in Seward at 11:05. We caught a shuttle to our hotel, the Hotel Seward. This hotel was the cheapest hotel in a city where they are VERY expensive. The Holiday Inn Express, for example was going for $229 a night! The hotel was quaint. It was old but fun. It has stuffed animals all over the lobby.
It was at the older, south end of town. The key reason for its price though was that we were in the “historic” wing. The rooms had two single beds and a sink and not much else. The bathroom was down the hall. I was not sure about this idea, but I figured when we camp we typically use public restrooms, so why not in a hotel! It turned out to be okay.
Cheryl and I spent our afternoon at the Sea Life Center. This is an aquarium, nice, but smaller than Long Beach or Monterey. Enjoy the pictures…
Afterwards, we made our way to the harbor to catch our evening boat tour. We were signed up (two for one on the Toursaver App) for the 4 hour Resurrection Bay Cruise – including the all you can eay buffet Salmon and Prime Rib dinner. The cruise lasted from 6 to 10 pm. We saw Eagles, Puffins, Dolphins, Otters and Sea Lions…. Sadly no whales..
