Hillview Cross Country

We have had our first two meets of the 2017 season. The short synopsis is that my girls are awesome, the guys are pretty good….

Last year we had a solid group of 7th grade girls and we had an exceptional group of 6th grade girls led by a record setting pair of twins. At practices this year, the twins usually lead the way – even out pacing the guys, 8th grader Shelby Smith has been out there with them. So going into the races I knew the girls would be awesome.

The first meet 9/30 was the High Desert Runners’ Invitational. The High Desert Runners Club sponsored the race providing all the awards! We had medals 20 deep in all 6 races. The 8th graders ran first – boys and girls together – The girls were led by Shelby in 2nd with the others placing 4,5,9 and 10. The boys 8,9,18,22 and 23 – good enough for 2nd place. Murray/Monroe – 2 California City schools in the process of merging ran away with it.  The 7th grade races were both won by Hillview. The boys edged out M/M 51 to 53, The girls, even with #1 girl absent, took 7 of the top 10 slots easily winning. The 6th grade boys were 3rd out of 8 teams, the girls 2nd out of 2…

Our 2nd meet had only two races, all the boys and then all the girls. Based on the first week’s result you could guess how it worked out… Boys – Murray.Monroe, then Esperanza then Hillivew…. Girls – Hillivew! then M/M then Joe Walker…

The good news for the boys is that M/M is not in our league so they have a good shot at once again winning the title.

This Friday we travel to Riverside for a regional meet – a replacement for the cancelled Mt Sac. I expect the 7th and 8th grade girls to do well.
